Kırşehir is a historical city located in the Central Anatolia Region of Turkey, known for its cultural heritage, folk music, and spiritual traditions. As of 2024, its population is around 250,000.
Throughout history, the city has been home to many civilizations, including the Hittites, Phrygians, Persians, Romans, Byzantines, Seljuks, and Ottomans. Its name literally means “Steppe City” (Kır meaning steppe and şehir meaning city).
Kırşehir is widely recognized as the “Capital of Ahi Order and Turkish Folk Music.” It is the birthplace of great Turkish figures such as Ahi Evran, the founder of the Ahi fraternity, Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli, the leader of the Bektashi Order, and the legendary folk musician Neşet Ertaş.
